A
narrative focus pervades the work of Gun Mattsson who
draws inspiration from a wide selection of sources:
east/west cultures, classical antiquity, renaissance
and baroque eras etc. She works with a full complement
of art materials such as gouache, aquarelle, acrylics,
copper print and calligraphy. In recent yeas she has
exhibited abroad in galleries in New York City and Montreal,
Canada. She has also engaged in many study/painting
trips to countries like England, Germany, France, Italy,
Spain and parts of Eastern Europe to widen her professional
knowledge.
Here's
how it will be when I paint:
Many small designs, sometimes difficult to detect without
the magnifying glass, in the same frame. Speaks with
each other in the silent, only way paper and painted
figures have as alternative. Much is about symbols -
to mean something to me. Something for you - at least
I hope so.
Although I am strongly influenced by my great curiosity
in history, psychology and philosophy (also part of
my university studies), my characters do not allow to
me to be "captain of the whole ship". For
the most part I can not anticipate the last brush stroke.
I like to work with gouache and watercolour. But even
with oil and acrylic, and graphics technologies.
I have shown my work in Argentina, the United States,
Canada, Israel and a handful of countries in Europe
- not least at the Florence Biennale Italy in 2007 -
and of course in Sweden.
