Born
in Avesta, Sweden. Grew up at an idyllic place by the
riverside. Music, drawing and painting became early
a big part of her life. After years of study in Uppsala
she settled in Stockholm.
The International Summer Academy of Fine Arts in Salzburg
made a turning point in her life. There she studied
abstract painting, first under professor Emilio Vedova
and then professor Zao Wou-Ki. The influences from the
explosive Italian and the humble Chinese gave an interesting
combination of west and east. She developed her own
style where she mixes colour, rhythm and humour in a
balanced way. A serious touch reflecting the opposites
of life is often found.
Her techniques are principally acrylic, gouache and
collage of different materials. Her latest project is
to use dried sea-algae from the Swedish westcoast in
her paintings.
In her installations wood, nets and papier-maché
are used.
Gunilla has participated in more than fifty solo and
group exhibitions all over the world. She is also represented
in numerous private and public collections.
Infinite Forms: Gunilla Oldenburg is a book about her
art presented by NY Arts and published 2009 in USA.
